Let's Talk About the Problems with Modern Gaming

Gaming these days has brought us so much joy, entertainment, and a way to connect with other players from all over the world. However, it's not all sunshine and rainbows, as there are new problems and annoyances that come with the modern-day gaming experience for PC users.

Waiting for Updates and Large Game Sizes

One of the most frustrating issues that gamers face today is waiting for constant updates to download and install. It seems like every time you log on to play your favorite game, there's an update waiting for you. And not only that, but some games are so big that they take up a massive amount of space on your device. This can be really annoying, especially if you don't play games that often, and you end up waiting more than you actually play.

Inability to Sell or Share Games

In the past, gamers were able to share or sell their physical game discs with friends or family. However, with most games being digital now, this isn't really a thing anymore. This is a major disadvantage of digital gaming, as it takes away the ability to share the joy of gaming with others. However, blockchain technology and the use of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) might be the solution. NFTs would allow players to freely trade with other players, remove middlemen, and stop scams and the black market where people trade their entire accounts while sharing their personal data.

Online Game Server Shutdowns

Another issue that has become increasingly common is the shutting down of online game servers. When an online game shuts down its servers, it means that you can no longer play the game online, and there are no refunds given. This is a huge problem, especially if you've invested a lot of time and money into the game. It's really disappointing to see a game you love go offline, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Microtransactions (MTX)

Microtransactions are another issue that many gamers have a problem with. MTX refers to in-game purchases that allow players to buy items or upgrades with real money. While some games offer purely cosmetic items, others give players a distinct advantage in player versus player (PvP) combat. This creates an uneven playing field, where players who don't buy MTX can't compete at the same level. Additionally, many gamers feel that MTX takes away from the immersive experience of the game, as they often make characters look out of place. Now, I'm not saying that all microtransactions (MTX) are bad, but they need to be implemented in a fair and balanced way. A great example is the first-person shooter game, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. CSGO allows players to purchase weapon skins, but these skins don't give any in-game advantages.
