Samsung to Discontinue DeX App for Windows with One UI 7 Update
Samsung has officially announced that the DeX for Windows app will no longer be supported following the release of its One UI 7 update. This marks a significant shift for users who have relied on the app to create a desktop-like environment by connecting their Galaxy smartphones to Windows PCs. The change is expected to roll out in early 2025, likely alongside the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series.
Samsung recommends users transition to Microsoft’s Phone Link (also called Link to Windows) for seamless PC and phone integration. This app, developed in collaboration with Microsoft, offers features such as:
- Syncing notifications, calls, and text messages.
- Running Android apps directly on Windows 11.
- Managing media playback from the PC.
While Phone Link provides robust connectivity options, it does not replicate the full DeX desktop environment experience, which allowed for drag-and-drop file transfers and a true PC-like interface.
